DALE MOOD AWARD - Congratulations to Lisa Kelley for being selected as the winner of the Award for 2007. Since joining the Club, Lisa has been a valuable volunteer where ever the Club needs one. She was instrumental in helping with all facets of the junior tennis program, as well as with adult tennis and the swim team over the years. Lisa has donated hours of her time, many tablecloths and even a coffee maker to the Club. For years Lisa has been decorating the Club with beautiful flowers from her garden. Lisa certainly deserves to be the Meadows Club Volunteer of the year. Thank you Lisa!

A MESSAGE FROM DALE - NEW DIRECTIONS - As most of you know by now I have retired as of December 31, 2007 as general manager of the Meadows Club. Once again, I would like to thank the membership, and particularly the Board of Directors, for the wonderful retirement party on November 3rd and the generous acts of naming the swimming pool in my honor and providing Maureen and me with an honorary membership in the Club.

At its December meeting the Board of Directors discussed the possibility of restructuring the duties of the individual Board members. For the past several years three Board members have served as the principle members of the tennis committee and three others as the principle members of the swim committee. Additionally each Board member has served as the main organizer for one or more of the social events held throughout the year. Although no firm plans have yet been made, the Board is considering revisions to the assignment of these responsibilities.

Changes to the methods of communication with the membership are also being considered. Many years ago, a periodic newsletter was sent to each member through bulk mail. Then came the web site and the quarterly COMMUNICATOR that I sent out with the quarterly dues statement. Of course, this will be the last time I will be preparing the COMMUNICATOR and due to technological advances, the Board is considering a periodic electronic newsletter in the form of an e-mail. Thus, please be certain to inform the Meadows Club office staff of any changes to your e-mail address.

My son Shane will not be returning to the Meadows Club as Assistant Manager and head swim coach in 2008. I would like to take this opportunity to officially thank him for all his contributions to the Meadows Club and the assistance he afforded me over the past 15 years. Starting as a maintenance worker in 1992, Shane has done every job there is to do at the Meadows Club with the exception of head tennis pro. Eventually becoming the Assistant Manager, Shane was invaluable in every aspect of managing the Club from hiring and firing, organizing schedules, maintaining the pool chemicals, making repairs of all types, changing tennis nets, rolling wind screens up and down and a thousand other details. Even with all this assistance being as valuable as it was, in my opinion, Shane's greatest contribution to the Meadows Club came from his position as head swim coach. I cannot even begin to describe to you the amazing devotion, organization, and effort Shane put into this aspect of his "job". The number of activities he set up and then participated in with the members of the swim team was unbelievable. However, way more important to Shane were the lessons he taught to the swim team members in terms of responsibility, sportsmanship, and behavior. On countless occasions I have heard from former swim team participants of how valuable they now consider their involvement in this program and Shane's influence on their lives. We have been blessed with many terrific swim coaches over the years but in my admittedly biased opinion Shane has been the best!

If you have seen your new mode of communication from the Meadows Club lately, you know that the Board of Directors has hired a new general manager, Kjersten Buzek. I have agreed to act as a consultant to the Meadows Club to help Kjersten get started. I would like to ask that all of the members welcome her and give her the same wonderful support that you provided me over the years. Thanks.

AS ALWAYS, PLEASE BE SURE TO LOCK UP AND TURN OFF THE LIGHTS IF YOU ARE THE LAST TO LEAVE THE CLUB.
