COMMUNICATOR OCTOBER 2006

October 1, 2006

Dear Meadows Club Members:

The Annual Meeting of the Meadows Club for 2006 will be held October 24th at 7 PM at the Club.

The enclosed bill will probably be the final one I will be sending you this calendar year (except for some possible late guest or future social events charges. Please be sure to pay the amount shown on the STATEMENT, not the INVOICE, as the statement reflects any outstanding balances and credits the you may have. The invoice reflects only the current month's charges or credits.  I very much appreciate the manner in which most of you paid your club bills this year.

It is very important for me to receive your payments promptly for, as you know, the Club is operated as a non-profit organization and thus our income and expenses are budgeted to be nearly equal.  It is also important for financial reporting and tax purposes for your outstanding balances to be reduced to zero by December 31st, 2006, the end of the fiscal year.  For those few of you who have a relatively large outstanding balance, please make monthly payments to reduce these balances to zero over the next three months.

Also, if any of you still owe Doug, our tennis director, he would appreciate prompt payment as well.

Thank You

There are a large number of individuals who deserve many thanks for helping out with several events that have occurred since the last Communicator.  Please forgive me if I fail to mentioned anyone deserving of recognition.

As always, thanks to the Corrigans for a very well run 4th of July tennis tournament.  Thanks to Louie Beaupre, Mark Mehos, Jon Goodman, their spouses and their many helpers for the 4th of July celebration.

Thanks to Curt Corrigan for organizing and running the Men's Macho.

A big tip of the hat to Sara and Doug Oclassen and the rest of the Meadows Club Board members for the End of the year party.

A round of applause for the hosts of the very successful Swim Team Banquet, Alyssa Beyer, Jon Goodman, Louie Beaupre and their spouses.  Another special thanks also to Bruce Douglas and his camera crew who out do themselves every year with the slide show.

Thanks to Doug Kazarosian and his crew for the two end of the year tennis tournaments - the All Club Championships and the Meadows Open.  Both events were well organized and well run  The Meadows Open this year had 260 entrants, which was up from 224 last year, which was up from 192 the year before.  The word is out about this great event.  Special thanks to Kirsten Roeber, Dee Perry, Gail Givens, Tricia Jamison, Jennie Cleveland and the many others who helped at the tournament desk. Even the rain and wind couldn't keep this from being a terrific tournament.

And finally, a very, very, special thanks to Kirsten Roeber, Mark Mehos, and Alyssa Beyer for their past three years of service on the Meadows Club Board of Directors.

Dale Mood Award

The Dale Mood award for the most outstanding volunteer at the club for 2006 has been awarded to Jay Beyer.  Jay devoted countless hours this year in sprucing up the Meadows Club on our clean up day.  He almost single handedly repaired the swimming pool pergola, a project that took nearly a week and lots of manual labor to complete, and was a tireless helper at all of our home swim meets, timing, being a runner, and most especially, Jay was instrumental in organizing he parking for these events.  Jay represents many other individuals who volunteer for several tasks at the Club and help to make the Club the successful operation it is.  Thanks to all of the volunteers and especially this to Jay Beyer.

Reminders about the guest policy and senior status

During the period between mid August and mid May, guests are still permitted at the Club but the sign in and payment of guest fees are done on an honor system.  Guests still must only be at the Club with an accompanying member and that member is responsible for seeing that the guest fee is paid or for making arraignments for it to be billed.  We co not count guest visits during this time toward the "six times" rule. Guest fees are to be paid just as they would be during the summer months for use of the Club's facilities.  In the winter, these would include the club house, the tennis courts, and the platform tennis court.  Please help by abiding by these policies.  Thank you.

If a single member or both adults in a family membership are 62 years of age or over, there is a "senior" discount available for dues.  Please contact me when you qualify.

Meadows Club Oktoberfest

This year the annual Oktoberfest will not be held.  Watch for its return next year.

Have a great winter season and remember that the tennis courts are open all year.

Please be sure to turn out the clubroom and locker room lights and lock all of the doors if you are the last to leave the building (day or night).  Also, please turn off the tennis court lights when you are through playing unless, of course, someone else is waiting to use the courts when you finish.  The neighbors will appreciate the lights being off when no one is on the courts and since 56 light bulbs are each 1000 watts, the Club will save on utility costs.  Thanks.

Sincerely,

Dale P. Mood
