Coaches Biographies
Nat Carruthers,
born in Boulder, CO,
grew up in Hartland, Wisconsin
until age 5 and then returned to Boulder. He was a competitive swimmer from age 3 ˝
swimming for Arrowhead (Wisconsin),
Boulder Burst and Elks club and played several other sports including varsity
basketball in high school. Nat still holds the BVSSL 50 free record. He joined USS team RACE at age 16. He currently attends Kenyon
College in Ohio where he is majoring in Biology. He was
part of Kenyon’s 29th consecutive winning NCAA National Championship
team, named two time All American in the 100 fly and
200 IM. He has coached private lessons
for all ages for 6 years and worked with Bob Smartt’s
summer camp.
JD Klingenberg
grew up in Loveland, CO
where he swam competitively for the Loveland Swim Club and Thompson Valley
High School. After graduation, JD attended the Colorado
School of Mines for 5 semesters where he continued to compete until he discovered
that Engineering was not the right fit for him and transferred to the University of Colorado
at Boulder
where he is majoring in Integrative Physiology, he plans to graduate in
December. JD has been coaching for 6 years, and has done it all: lessons, summer
club, year-round club, high school, and Masters. In addition to the Meadows, JD is currently
Senior Coach at the Colorado
Swim Academy
and Head Coach for the Monarch High School Boys and Assistant Coach for the
Monarch Girls.
Kelly Klein is in her third year at
Meadows. She is currently a masters candidate at CU,
and her thesis involves swimming techniques in children and adolescence. Kelly
has been a swimmer for thirteen years, and just this last year won the Mile in
a club record setting time at the ASA U. National Championship. Kelly's
favorite swimming events are the 1650 Freestyle, the 400 IM, and the 200
butterfly. Kelly is originally from Florida
and enjoys all the outdoor activities Colorado
has to offer.
Kate Compton is a native to both Boulder and the Meadows
Club. She swam for Meadows for the past 13 years. She also swam at Fairview High School. She is currently a
sophomore at the University
of Colorado where she is
majoring in international affairs. On top of school and swimming, Kate enjoys
playing soccer, hiking and traveling. She is excited to be apart of the Meadows
swim staff; to carry on the traditions and share the in the fun as she watches
other swimmers learn about the sport and experience the spirit of the Meadows
Club.
Carla Natalie Swam competitively
for YMCA, summer league and high school teams in Philadelphia, PA
for 10 years. She coached and taught private lessons in the BVSSL for 4 years
and was pool Manager and head instructor at the City of Boulder for six years. Carla was also a full
time coach for the Novice Group of North Coast Aquatics in San Diego, CA.
She worked with SwimAmerica teaching group and
private lessons at San Diego
Swim Academy.
Carla has a Master’s Degree in Sports and Recreation Education from Temple University
in Philadelphia, PA
and has taught elementary PE in the Boulder
area for three years.
Stephanie Fellows grew up in Boulder and graduated
from the Meadows Club, after 8 years, last season. She is going into her third
year at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo this fall studying Natural Resource
Management, specifically outdoor recreation and is always up for a good
adventure. Stephanie loves long walks on the beach, and has been known to eat a
few too many doughnuts, her favorite fruit is a peach, her current toothpaste
is Aquafresh and she loves doing crafts. Stephanie feel privileged to have the opportunity to coach at Meadows
this summer and pass on the Meadows traditions that I grew up with.
